Our perfect little girl arrived on June 11th at 9:49 pm. She weighed 7 pounds 2 ounces and was 19 and 3/4 inches long. Her birth turned out to be quite an event!
Stacy's water broke at 12:45 am on June 11th. We slowly headed to the hospital expecting her to arrive by early afternoon. We prepared for natural childbirth with Bradley classes and followed our plan until about 4pm. Stacy was in very hard labor since her water had already broken. She did great, but she made very little progress and finally the pain was just too much for her. Reagan was beginning to have some problems with her heart rate and the doctors felt like an epidural would help the baby and mom relax. Stacy continued to labor until about 8:15 pm, but still there was very little progress made. Reagan's heart rate continued to be irregular and the doctor felt like it was time for a c-section. We knew that many, many people had been praying for our little girl and this labor and delivery and we trusted that this was the right decision to make.
Once we got in the OR things happened very quickly. As soon as the doctor saw Reagan, the problem was apparent-she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck two times. No matter what we had done, she would not have been able to be born vaginally. Her initial Apgar was low, only a 4. The doctors felt like she was ok, but mom and dad were understandably concerned. Justin stayed with Reagan, but Stacy was only able to see her for a brief minute before they took her to the NICU. She had to stay in NICU for several hours, but was able to come to Stacy's room by about 3 am. What a relief to finally be able to hold that precious baby! Reagan's temperature and blood sugar finally stabalized.
Reagan is doing great today. She is a reluctant eater, but all of the staff said that is very normal. She is finally starting to show some interest. All of our plans for this birth seemed to change along the way, but we know that is a good introduction into parenthood.

Congratulations guys! I know you and your families are probably so in love! It only gets better! You are definitely right about those babies changing plans. It's one of the many ways I think God shows himself through our parenting experience!! I wish you much sleep and hope you're able to savor every minute with her...blink and she'll be big. As tough as it is, enjoy the newborn days!! Oh and post some pictures!! Much love, Erica
